The collaborative leadership we put in place in this past decade will continue, shared between our Board and Executive Directors. It's been wonderful to see the next generation take the reins and prove the wisdom of the organizational structure they
spearheaded. Gensler is a large firm with a long reach, so teamwork is a necessity. Yet our leadership team also acts in concert, quickly and decisively. Our strength testifies to the validity of our model. I'm having too much fun to retire, but at this point in my career, I'd rather spend my time with our clients and
in the studio. My colleagues can do the hard work of running the firm. It's in good hands.

Message From The Founder

We started Gensler 45 years ago as a three-person oce in San Francisco. We've come a long way since then. One important reason for our success is the attention we've always paid to sustaining the firm.

Gensler in 2010 is financially strong and exceptionally well-led across its global oces and practices.
Leadership is found throughout ourfirm—we've always known how to find and cultivate talent, not least by giving younger people responsibility and room to grow. Today, we provide that opportunity to our colleagues in Brazil, China, Costa Rica, India,
Japan, Singapore, the UAE, and the UK, as well as those in the US. Gensler is a global firm that's at home in 35 cities around the world. And that's just the latest count!

One of the best decisions we made early on was to form an employeeowned stock plan (ESOP). This let us transition from our founding generation and extend ownership to the entire Gensler community. Everyone here has a stake in the firm through our ESOP. All of us "think like owners," which benefits our clients, too. Since I'm actively involved in a number of our major projects, I know firsthand that along with their remarkable creativity, there's an
ethos of eciency, productivity, coste ectiveness, and sustainability in our design studios. The dedication
to our clients and their projects is amazing!

Gensler in 2010 is making another transition. I'm stepping down from our board. I'll always be the founder, and that's more than enough for me. Walter Hunt, our vice-chair, and Jim Furr are also leaving the board. Walter has lent his vast skill as a leader to guide some of our largest projects and give advice and counsel to our practice areas and oces. Jim has made a powerhouse of our South Central region, moving us into new domestic and global markets. Both will now be free to focus totally on our clients and projects.
